For Movement – A Blessing

This is from Michelle Fraser’s wonderful little book: “Love Makes Us Beautiful: a book of blessings”. It’s pressed in on my heart as a New Year’s blessing.

“For Movement”

In your moment of stagnancy,

Of boredom and numbness,

May you journey into mystery.

When your feet freeze and your knees lock

In fear of the enveloping fog,

May courage guide you forward

And faith outshine doubt.

May you look evenly at your confusion and apathy

And choose motion over stuckness,

Unknown possibility over known comfort.

Our First Sunday…

This was our first Sunday in our new digs at the Bridge. Ian made the coffee and John brought the donuts and Maggie baked brownies and banana bread and Christina made Pumpkin Pie Tarts. There was lots of conversation, fooseball and some pool.

We read a blessing for our new life together. We made postcards – messages to our future church. “Dear  Third Space, they said, “I hope you become…” I was really touched by the sentiments, really impressed by the art. We talked for a bit about Jesus being ‘in the boat’ with us. We prayed and hung out together. It was wonderful.

I also learned that if you ask for volunteers to read aloud Doug will put his finger on his nose. Apparently it’s a camp thing.

Sunday was a very, very good day…

A Blessing for our New Home, and our New Life

A Blessing for Third Space

As your heart desires to find God, may you find him in this community.
As your heart desires to know God, may you know him in this community.
As your heart desires to dwell in the heart of God, may you be at one with the heart of this community.

Lord, bless us, that we may abide in your love.

When you are wearied, worried, afraid, carrying the burdens of life, may you find your rest in this community.
When you are passing through the valleys of darkness, death and despair may you find cool water for your soul, light for your spirit, and hope for your heart in this community.
May you find the richness, wonder and joy of the abundant life Christ has promised in this community.

Lord, bless us, that we may abide in your love.

When we are weak, let us find strength here.
When we are afraid, let us find courage here.
When we are alone, let us find friends here.
When we are sick, let us find healing here.
When we are joyful, let us celebrate here.
When we are in the midst of our life, let us find community here.
When we are in the midst of community, let us find your Spirit here.

When hearts are weak, we will be strong for them.
When hearts are afraid, we will be courageous for them.
When hearts are lonely, we will be a friend.
When bodies are sick, we will pray healing.
When spirits are joyful, we will celebrate with them.
As people enter into our midst, we will welcome them into our community.
As people enter our community, we will welcome them in the Holy Spirit.

Lord, bless us that we may abide in your love

The Spirit of the Lord is upon us
for he has anointed us to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent us to proclaim that captives will be released,
that the blind will see,
that the oppressed will be set free,
and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.

Lord, bless us, that we may fulfill your mission in downtown Peterborough today.
